Home Care for Skin & Hair During Covid19 Lockdown

Pioneering Indian saloon and beauty guru Dr Blossom Kochhar – Founder & Chairperson, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, shares essential home remedies for skin and hair care during the nationwide lockdown period owing to the coronavirus pandemic:

  • Avoid washing your hair: As we all stay home, the air outside is getting cleaner with a positive decline in pollutants. This is an opportunity to let the natural oils in your scalp do their magic. Give your scalp and hair some rest from the chemicals in regular shampoos and conditioners. Those who have oily hair can wash it every 2-3 days.
  • DIY a Hair Mask: Take one tablespoon of conditioner, half a banana mashed, one tablespoon of lemon juice, a teaspoon of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of curd, and optionally, 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil – mix it all together and apply to your hair and scalp. Rinse off after 20 minutes for smooth and shiny hair.
  • For damaged and dry hair: If you feel your hair is getting unhealthy, try a hair mask with 2 tablespoons of coconut milk and juice of half a lemon. Massage the mixture into your scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes – one hour before rinsing it off.

Staying at home has its own benefits, including naturally glowing skin. To keep it healthy and retain the glow, exfoliate well.

  • To make a natural exfoliator at home, you can use ingredients from your kitchen. Take one tablespoon of rice powder, squeeze a lemon into it or one tablespoon curd, mix and apply it on your face. Massage your face in a circular motion and remember to do this only twice a week.
  • Use a face pack after exfoliating. You can either choose a readymade face pack or sheet masks as per your skin’s needs or use a natural homemade recipe. Banana mixed with honey or cream is great for the skin. You can also mash up papaya or avocado, mix it with lemon or orange juice and milk powder – leave this pack on your face for 20 minutes and rinse it off.
  • Follow up with a skin oil or moisturizer. Any nourishing oil like almond or Vitamine E cream can be used to massage your face for 5-10 minutes. Then wipe the cream off and apply a light moisturizer; this especially beneficial for ageing skin.
