Lakmé Salons Introduce Sustainability Campaign ‘Happy New You’

Lakmé Salons has kicked-off a network-wide sustainability initiative, with the campaign ‘Happy New You’ going live on 13th December 2019. The popular salon chain with its presence in over 154 cities, aims to scale up the initiative in 2020 with more partners. The mission is to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint and build a sustainable business model while educating and inspiring their 1 million customers to adopt environment-friendly practices.

Lakmé Salon took the first steps in this direction in 2018 by making small changes in its operations i.e switching to LED lighting, water-saving nozzles and maintaining optimal A/C temperatures in the salons. Additionally, they planted 40,000 trees that will offset the total carbon footprint from the electricity consumption at 69 Salons, in 20 years. Taking it one step higher, the 2nd phase of the campaign launched at the end of 2019 will see all 460+ salons of the chain take multiple actions to go green. They have also launched eight green salons with franchise partners, using eco-friendly design and materials in construction. Other efforts taken to further the cause include:

  • A complete shift to e-bills, thus reducing paper waste
  • Waste segregation in the salons
  • Biodegradable consumables
  • Adding high oxygen indoor plants
  • Installation of energy-efficient fixtures that reduce energy consumption by 75%
  • Switching to glass bottles to replace single-use plastic

Also, a part of this mission is Lakmé Salons’ vision to ‘Beautify the Future’ by educating talent in 115 Lakmé Academies powered by Aptech centres and creating career and entrepreneurship opportunities for the 4000+ team members across Lakme Salons in the country.
